  • In honor of Jenna Balk’s 8th Birthday.

At the June 15th meeting of St. Paul’s UMW, President Paula Vergowven was presented with a certificate and pin as a Special Mission Recognition. Our UMW sent a gift of money in her honor to the UMW National Office for ministries with women, children and youth. Paula was selected for this award because of her work with our church, the Chrysalis and Emmaus communities, and the Ann Arbor District UMW.

There is a Special Music sign-up sheet on the bulletin board. Please share your music talents with the congregation.

Mary Martha Circle members are trying something new and we need your help. The something new is: a prayer quilt ministry.
A prayer quilt is a lap size quilt with heavy threads stitched through the quilt layers with the thread ends left free to be tied in a square (secure) knot. We are asking all members of the congregation to tie a knot and offer a silent prayer for someone in special need (such as, but not limited to: medical, emotional, or spiritual concerns, difficult family situations, personal crisis or grief.) Sometimes we’ll know the recipient and the nature of their prayer needs at the start and sometimes we will not. The quilt when finished will be given as a gift of love and prayer. It is a statement of faith in God and belief in God’s power to comfort, strengthen and heal. The comfort the quilt brings the recipient will come from the prayers that are tied into each knot.
Another way we are asking for help is by your sharing the name of someone you know that would be blessed to receive a prayer quilt. If you would like to suggest someone, turn the individual’s name into the office, the pastor, or a member of the circle. Permission for the circle to prepare a prayer quilt for an individual must be received from the individual or a close family member prior to the quilt being given. Let us know if you have sought and received permission or if the circle needs to make a contact to obtain permission.
Our goal is to encourage and involve the congregation of St. Paul’s in this prayer effort. The motto of the parent organization is: “It is not about the quilt, it is about the prayers.” The first St. Paul’s prayer quilt is on the upper landing near the office/parking lot—you may use the stairs or the elevator. Stop by often to say a prayer, tie a knot, send some love and share your faith.
The final way to support the prayer quilt ministry is to come to a Mary Martha meeting and lend a hand in the making of the quilts. If you are not able to do that at this time—we are in need of cotton fabric to use in the making of quilts. If you have some cotton fabric you no longer have a use for, donate it to the circle, by bringing it to the church and leaving it for the circle. We’ll put it to good use. (no piece will be too big or too small, too colorful or too dull, too unattractive, old ... to be helpful!)
