2024 Hanging of the Greens

  • St. Paul's United Methodist Church 201 S. Monroe St. Monroe, MI 48161 United States (map)

St. Paul’s will hold their Hanging of the Greens on Sunday, November 24 following the morning service.

Why are greens hung?

The United Methodist Church (UMC) hangs greens to mark the start of Advent and prepare for Christmastide. The evergreens symbolize eternal life, the resurrection of Christ, and the new life that will come when Christ returns:

Everlasting life: The greenery represents the unending life that will come when Christ returns.

Resurrection: The evergreens symbolize the resurrection of Christ, as they represent life and growth overcoming the dead of winter.

New life: The evergreens represent the new life that will come when Christ returns.
