What do the UMW Do?

UMW organizes many activities focused on need and missions in connection with the national UMW program. Following is a list of events to share our participation of ministry in the global church.
UMW ladies worked together to plan and serve salad luncheons in September, October, and November 2019. Proceeds from the salad luncheons were given to local, national, and international missions including: Anti Human Trafficking Organization here in Monroe, Haiti Hot Lunch, Water for Life, Red Bird Christian School, New Beginnings Mercy House Ministries in Ida, and United Methodist Community House in Grand Rapids. Salad luncheons will not be held for 2021 due to the pandemic, and Monroe County, Michigan area classified as High Risk.

The 2021 Fall Silent Auction featured new, handcrafted and goodie baskets items for donation including a quilt by the Mary Martha Circle Quilt Ministry. The proceeds for 2021 Auction, was $1,600 that will be split between three missions: UMYF Mission Trip, Children’s Methodist Village in Redmond Michigan, and Dulac Community Center, Dulac, Louisiana. The auction in 2018 proceeds were given to St. Paul’s youth for the mission trip to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

During our June meetings we make cards to give to our elderly saints and from that we have created a card ministry where we send thinking of you, birthday, and holiday cards throughout the year to that person.

We enjoy wonderful fellowship during our Annual Advent Tea on the First Sunday of Advent.

In the summer of 2021 UMW with the assistance of the Christian Education area, held Community Enrichment Classes in order to invite the Monroe community into the St. Paul’s community. There was an average of 30 attendees each month. We partnered with organizations, businesses and St. Paul’s members to provide classes FREE to the public. Even our youth provided a soccer class for kids! We held an encore event, Brain League Trivia Night in September where 5 teams competed for movie tickets and trivia game prizes. We plan to do again in 2022.

We are excited for what the next year will bring and would love to have you be a part of United Methodist Women!
